FALKEN concludes most successful VLN racing season in company’s history

What a great final for FALKEN at the Nürburgring racing track. Leading their Porsche 911 GT3 R to fourth place in the last race of the 2017 VLN Endurance Championship, Klaus Bachler and Romain Dumas crowned the Japanese tyre manufacturer's most successful season to date. Peter Dumbreck and Stef Dusseldorp had a great race in their BMW M6 GT3 coming from behind to finish in 11th place overall. At the final race of the season, both FALKEN racing cars presented a new, exciting design. As part of the Design Challenge, motorsport fans from all over the world had been able to submit their proposals on Facebook. For the Porsche 911 GT3 R, a design by Dirk Hinzmann was selected that referenced the route of the legendary Nordschleife. The fan community voted for Saunas Ramoska's proposal for the BMW M6 GT3, which combined various graphic elements from the FALKEN modular system. Spurred by the new designs, both FALKEN teams showed their strength already in qualifying. Peter Dumbreck and Stef Dusseldorp came in fourth in their BMW M6 GT3, while Klaus Bachler and Romain Dumas started from the sixth position with the Porsche 911 GT3 R. The onset of rain shortly before the start of the race presented all teams with another major challenge. Once again, the FALKEN tyres proved to be the key to success. Klaus Bachler was fastest in getting his tyres to operating temperature, passed two racers in a spectacular manoeuvre at the same time and led the race for several kilometres. At the end of the four-hour endurance race, Team FALKEN Porsche finished in fourth place. Team FALKEN BMW had to stop for the repair of a technical defect shortly before the end of the first half of the race and dropped back to the 22nd spot. Coming from behind after a spectacular race, Dumbreck/Dusseldorp finished 11th overall. This marks the end of a successful VLN season for FALKEN. The win by the BMW M6 GT3 in the fourth race of the season gave FALKEN its first overall victory since the start of its Nürburgring commitment in 1999. The Porsche 911 GT3 R team added two more podium finishes later in the season. “We are looking back with pride on a successful season. In addition to the historic first VLN win, we also enjoyed several successful finishes in no less than three drift series. Moreover, Falken driver Yoshihide Muroya won the last Red Bull Air Race in Indianapolis, thus becoming World Champion. All of these successes are a wonderful confirmation both for our athletes and for our products, brand and companies. Our "Masters of Excitement" campaign that has been launched across Europe this year is also crowned by these successes", concluded Stephan Cimbal, Head of Marketing at Falken Tyre Europe.
